Hello Students,
I hope you had a great holiday and even better kick off to the new year. Recently, I recommended using lace to one of my students. And it got me thinking of the few ways you can use lace. So ladies, here it goes, here are few designer tips on using lace!
1. Use the actual edges of your lace fabric on the hem line and neck line.
Most laces have some sort of scalloped edge or design where the selvage would normally be. So that means you have two beautiful finished edges going down the length of your lace. Use those edges to your advantage and make them your finished edge!
2. Cut out the design of the lace, and applique the lace piece onto parts of your garment. It gives a more organic, couture feel to your finished project!
3. Back your lace with a stiffer material and use it like any other fabric. This means you are using the lace as a texture detail and for design. It has a more structured feel!
If you have done any lace projects or will do now that you've read this, send it over and I'll share it with the group!!
Sincerely,
Sumie
